The appearance of the ‘blocked link‘ message has two possible explanations:
- When you enter the questionnaire in a way respondent does, iCode automatically generates a unique variable named ‘iCode ID’ that is added to the original link. If you try to refresh the site or click the ‘go back’ button in your browser after the survey is displayed and this variable is generated, the iCode system will read it as an attempt to use the same link for the second time. This would cause the results to be overwritten, so the survey blocks the link to prevent this from happening. To sum up, the iCode system prevents attempts to complete the questionnaire multiple times with the same iCode id.
OUR ADVICE: you should not refresh the link or click the ‘go back’ button in your browser. If sending the link to anyone, use the original link (without iCode id variable generated), not the one you have copied after you opened the survey in your browser.
- If you add an additional variable to the iCode entry link (for instance respondent id given by your panel provider) you cannot use the same value twice. Entering the survey with the same variable you have passed more then once would cause the results to be overwritten, so the survey blocks the link to prevent this from happening.
OUR ADVICE: If you want to enter the link again, you have to change the value of the variable you are passing to the iCode system.
